Unaccompanied Minors
Because of legal requirements and the need to complete certain documentation it is not possible to book an Unaccompanied Minor using the flyUIA.com online booking system.
The unaccompanied minor procedure is applied for a child between 5 and 12 years old, not accompanied by an adult over 16 years of age.
A child under 5 years of age is not accepted for transportation on UIA flights if not accompanied by an adult.
Passengers between 12 and 16 years old and traveling alone may be considered unaccompanied minors and accepted as such
- on special request of the parents or appointed guardian
- in case of doubt about his/her ability to travel alone.
UIA does not provide an escort for unaccompanied minors by its own staff.
Connecting flightsFor interline transportation UM shall be permitted only for:
- immediate continuous space;
- same day connections;
- all segments confirmed.
Each carrier is responsible for the safe delivery of the unaccompanied minor to the receiving carrier at the transfer airport.
Stopovers or night stops are not permitted.
The maximum connection time at the airports may not exceed 4 hours, except airports Zurich and Amsterdam - no limitations provided the same day connections.
The transportation of unaccompanied minors on UIA flights is not allowed if the change of airports on the same transfer point is necessary.
Parents or guardians must:
- arrange for the necessary travel documents;
- arrange for an authorized adult on departure to stay at the airport until the flight is airborne;
- arrange for an authorized adult upon arrival to be at the airport at the actual time of arrival(contact details of the person must exist in the UM Handling Advice Form as well as in the reservation record);
- sign the “Handling advice” form;
- pay all costs involved in return transportation (meals, accommodation, ground transport, return fare, etc.) in case the authorized adult fails to meet the UM upon arrival.
In departure airport authorized handling company agent shall complete the UM Handling Advice prior check-in and the parent/guardian of the unaccompanied minor must sign the UM Handling Advice.
The UM Handling Advice shall be used as follows:
- personal details (names, age, sex) of the child are filled out once but the contact information of the person seeing off and meeting on arrival, as well as the flight details shall be filled out for each journey;
- contains the waiver of liability, to be signed by parents/guardian;
- contains several coupons/copies: One copy for each station concerned.
Filled out and signed “UM Handling Advice” and all travel documents of the unaccompanied minor must be placed into UM document holder bag which is given free of charge and serves for safe carriage of the UM’s documents.
If unaccompanied minor is the citizen of Ukraine, he/she must hold the authorization from the parents/guardians with the signature notarized.
Service chargeOne service charge must be paid per each unaccompanied minor, even if they are the same family members traveling together to the same final destination or they booked in the same booking record.

Ticket chargeThe charge 100% of the adult fare is applied for unaccompanied minor ticket.
Infants
An infant is a child who has not yet reached its 2nd birthday when travel commences. The date of departure determines the fare.
Maximum 1 infant per accompanied adult over 16 years of age paying applicable special fare for infant not occupying individual seat is allowed (10% of adult fare).
The infant is not entitled to a separate passenger seat. Infants are carried sitting on adult’s hands.
Infants in excess of 1 accompanied by a passenger paying the applicable adult fare are charged the same fare as children between 2 and 12 years of age.
The maximum number of infants allowed per seat block on board the aircraft is decided by the number of oxygen masks (1 mask per seat block).
Car–type infant seats can not be used on UIA flights for carriage of infants.
Aircraft baby baskets are not available on UIA flights.
The use of personal baby baskets is not allowed during the flight.
Baby strollers may be taken up to the aircraft entrance (on passenger’s will).
In this case baby strollers will be labeled at check-in and stowed in hold, using “Delivery at aircraft” procedure, where possible.
Strollers must be returned to the passenger when disembarking, i.e. at the aircraft stairs or at the loading bridge (Attention! This service is not available in airport Gatwick (London Great Britain!)).
Transportation of baby strollers is free of charge.
Children between the age of 2 and 12
Child between the age of 2 and 12 is:
- Paying the applicable child fare.
- Holding a regular passenger ticket.
- Occupying an individual passenger seat.
In principle, no special acceptance rules apply for accompanied children.
Passengers travelling with little or many children are entitled to be assisted, checked first and pre-boarded on flight.
Groups of children
Each children group in quantity under 30 persons must always have at least 1 escort. If the quantity of the children in group is exceeding 30 persons, the additional escort person shall be presented.
The escort person shall be at the age of 16 complete years.
Children younger than 16 years old shall be included into children group.
If the children group is not accompanied by the escort person, they are considered as Unaccompanied Minors. All requirements and procedures for the Unaccompanied Minors handling shall be applied (See "Unaccompanied Minors").
Each escort person shall hold the list of children group concerned. This list shall contain the name of the escort person and his/her children group leader status.
The birth day of each child and escort person shall be noted in this list. The children group list must be showed at the check-in desk and immigration control.
Seating of the children under 12 years old in the emergency exit rows on board aircraft is strictly forbidden.
The children groups’ lists with mandatory birth dates noted shall be sent to UIA Passenger Service Department prior flight check-in start to the following address: passenger@ps.kiev.ua.
